الوصف: In Ogawa Forest Reserve (OFR), the tree community consists of a few dominant tree species, such as Quercus serrata, Fagus japonica, and F. crenata, and many subdominant tree species, such as Acer mono, Betula grossa, Carpinus laxiflora, Swida controversa, Ostrya japonica, Prunus verecunda, Sorbus japonica, and Magnolia obovata (Masaki et al. 1992; also see Chapter 6). These latter species seldom occur as dominants in forest ecosystems, and their standing densities of adult individuals are low: a few to several trees per hectare. However, the populations of these tree species persist and have adequate regeneration, and thus contribute to the forest species diversity.
