Recently, we have reported very efficient Eu 2+ emission in several chlorides, bromides and iodides. Luminescence intensities in these hosts were comparable to those reported for commercial lamp phosphors. Blue luminescence with near UV excitation has been observed in these phosphors. However, there is no data available on Cu + luminescence in rubidium halides. New results on 3d activators Cu + and Mn 2+ emission in RbCaCl 3 host are reported in this paper, thus extending the list of Cu + activated phosphors. In contrast to 4f activators Eu 2+ and Yb 2+ , Cu + and Mn 2+ emissions are weak. However, there is efficient Yb 2+ –Mn 2+ energy transfer.
