During orthodontic tooth movement, various types of mechanical stresses are loaded on the periodontal tissue. in response to these stresses, remodeling of periodontal tissue occurs. The periodontal ligament is considered to have an important role in triggering a series of orthodontic force-induced tissue reactions. Using global gene expression analysis, we investigated the similarities and differences in cell-type-specific gene expression patterns induced by compressive force on osteoblasts and periodontal ligament cells.
