Modern digital games are increasingly live services with evolving metas. The meta of a digital game is the ecosystem around it, which is influenced by the game and in turn influences the game and how it is played. Players and stakeholders interact not only with the game itself but with experiences built around the games, such as tournaments and streaming. This creates a dynamic, complex ecosystem within which knowledge about a game may be constructed and disseminated. In this paper, we refine the existing definition of the meta and propose a novel model for the meta knowledge structure and propagation that accounts for this ecosystem based on a review of the academic literatureand case examples.
