The topic of the bachelor thesis: "The effect of mycotoxins of Stagonospora cirsii on the photochemical activity of photosystem 2 of barley seedlings". Measurements of fast OJIP kinetics of chlorophyll a fluorescence are a reliable method for assessing the effect of herbicides on the physiological state of plants. The effect of two mycotoxins (stagonolide A, herbarumin I) and the herbicide diquat was studied on seedlings of Hordeum vulgare L. Chlorophyll a fluorescence was evaluated 3, 24 and 48 hours after treatment of leaf discs and roots of whole seedlings with 30 min dark adaptation before measurements. herbicide diquat led to the death of all cells already after 24 h of exposure, being a more potent inhibitor of PS2 than stagonolide A or herbarumin I. Stagonolide A caused significant changes in OJIP-kinetics after 48 h of treatment of leaf discs, indicating an inhibition of electron transport within PS2 before Qa. Stagonolide A also lowered the numbers of PS2 complexes in leaves of whole seedlings, contrarily to herbarumin I that did not show this effect. When leaf discs were infiltrated with the abovementioned mycotoxins, then only herbarumin I was shown to significantly influence OJIP- kinetics in that both OJ and JI phases were accelerated. In summary, the obtained results confirmed the potential of both studied mycotoxins, stagonolide A and herbarumin I, to serve as the basic substances for the development of novel herbicides.
