Summary The authors report a case of hemorrhagic dengue fever in France, a reminder that travellers to tropical areas are at major risk for this disease. The 4 dengue viruses have spread to nearly all tropical countries. Clinical manifestations range from asymptomatic to fatal forms. Among these, hemorrhagic dengue fever and dengue shock syndrome require emergency treatment. Physicians should keep in mind that dengue is to be considered as a diagnosis for acutely pyretic patients having travellers to tropical countries.
