الوصف: Argon had been used for the first time successfully as bubble chamber liquid. Results, obtained from a 2.7-1 argon test detector in SPS and SC beams at CERN, comprise its track sensitivity to ionizing particles and to a laser beam in the bubble chamber mode, and as an important addition its simultaneous use as calorimeter through the collection of free charges in an electric field and the recording of scintillation light produced by beam particles during the expansion of the chamber. Furthermore, nitrogen and argon-nitrogen mixtures were made track sensitive for the first time. Possible applications of our hybrid technology for neutrino experiments at TeV-accelerators are outlined.
