The bachelor thesis briefly describes the family Cactaceae and the genus Hylocereus. There are described three main cultivated species of pitahaya. The work then focuses on the ecological demands of pitahaya, the ways in which pitahaya is cultivated in the world, and the diseases that attack pitahaya. Furthermore, the thesis describes from where the fruit is imported to the Czech Republic. The main part of the thesis contains information about pitahaya growing in Vietnam, about the problems associated with growing in Vietnam and about the problematic use of pesticides.
