Başparenin değiştirilebilir özelliğe sahip olması, neyzenleri zaman içerisinde deneme yanılma yöntemi ile kendilerine en uygun ölçülerde ve en yüksek performanslı materyali edinme arayışına yöneltmiştir. Bu arayış günümüzde de devam etmektedir. Teknoloji ile birlikte gelişen ve hassaslaşan tornaların başpare yapımına büyük katkısı vardır. İstenilen materyali istenilen ölçülerde ve kısa süre içerisinde yüksek performanslı bir başpareye dönüştürmek mümkün hale gelmiştir. Hal böyle olunca materyal çeşitliliği artmış, gerek doğal gerekse yapay birçok materyalden başpare yapılmıştır. Ney kamışının cinsi, çapı, yetiştiği bölge, başparenin materyali, yüksekliği, dış genişliği, iç genişliği, ağız çapı, başparenin yekpare ya da parçalı olması şüphesiz ki ney'in tonunu direkt olarak etkilemektedir. Ney hakkında yazılmış kaynaklarda boynuz materyali ile yapılmış başpareden sıkça söz edilir. Bu araştırma, boynuzun neden iyi bir başpare materyali olarak kabul gördüğünü anlamaya çalışılmaktadır. Geçmişte ney ile yapılan icra kayıtlarında başparelerin çoğunlukla boynuz materyalinden tercih edilmiş olması, melodik hafızamıza yerleşmiş o tonu kulağımız aradığı için hala tercih ediliyor olabilir. Günümüzde performansı daha yüksek bir başparenin olup olmadığı, alternatif materyaller denenerek bulunmaya çalışılmıştır. Bu çalışmada aynı ölçülerde açılmış ve tek bir ney ile kullanmak şartıyla, manda boynuzu, koç boynuzu, abanoz ağacı, gül ağacı, zeytin ağacı, şimşir ağacı, delrin ve aklirik materyallerinden üretilen on adet başparenin, tona ve performansa sirayet eden etkisi, alanında uzman dört neyzene test ettirilmiş ve yapılan görüşmeler vasıtası ile incelenmiştir.Anahtar Kelimeler : Ney, Başpare, Ton, Entonasyon, PerformansSayfa Adedi : 55Tez Danışmanı : Dr. Öğr. Üyesi Gönenç Hongur The alterable aspect of mouthpiece has prompted ney performers to use trial and error in time to obtain material that has the highest performance with the best measures suitable to themselves. Lathes developing with more precision have a great impact on mouthpiece making. They have enabled preferred material to turn into a high performance mouthpiece with preferred measures in a short span of time. Therefore, the variety of material has increased, and both natural and artificial materials have been used for mouthpiece making. The type, size, growing region of the ney, as well as the material, height, inside and outside width, mouth size, one-piece or multi-piece characteristic of the mouthpiece have direct effects on the tone of ney. Written sources on ney frequently mention horn as a mouthpiece material. This study seeks to understand why horn is accepted as a fine material for mouthpiece. It might be possible that the early sound recordings of ney mainly had mouthpieces made of horn that give the specific timbre for which our ears still search. This study intends to find if there might be a mouthpiece that has a higher performance than the mouthpiece made of horn today by trying out alternative materials. This study investigates the effect of ten different mouthpieces made of buffalo horn, ram horn, ebony, rosewood, olive wood, boxwood, polyoxymethylene, and acrylic, provided that they all have the same measurements and are tested on only one ney, on the tone and the performance of ney through examinations and commentaries of four different ney masters.
