الوصف: The eruption of the unique Taketomi side volcano, located on Atlasov Islandin the northern part of the Kuril island arc, started underwater and ended on land. It happened before people’s eyes and was essentially the formation of a new volcano. The newly formed side volcano was studied by famous Japanese scientists in 1933–1936, and from 1946 to the present day by Soviet and Russian researchers. The Taketomi side volcano continues to amaze with its landscapes and is actively visited by numerous tourists. Unfortunately, there is still not a single publication about people who have made a significant contribution to the study of this side volcano. This work is the first attempt to tell about them. In addition, based on available photographs, the destruction of the Taketomivolcano edifice from 1950s to 2020 is shown and, for the first time, existing inconsistencies cited in various publications describing the eruption of the volcano are highlighted.
