الوصف: The afforestation is of great importance for the human being, contributing not only to the environment, but also to the physical and mental health of the local population. The afforestation in schools provides a well-being among the students and an improvement of the teaching, being also important for the development of practical classes within the biological and environmental theme. It is observed in the Brazilian semi-arid Northeast a warm and dry climate, reason why it is necessary the implantation of wooded environments, especially in the schools of basic education, since it can affect the process of teaching-learning. One of the cities located in the region is the municipality of Poço das Trincheiras, whose school environments were not investigated as to the existence or not of afforestation. In order to do so, the 17 schools of the public education system of the municipality were visited, aiming to evaluate the afforestation in public schools, verifying the amount of trees and shrubs, students in schools, their relationship with afforestation and its importance for the formation process. For data collection, questionnaires were developed, aimed at school management and in loco evaluation. Based on the results, it can be observed that the afforestation of public schools in the municipality of Poço das Trincheiras is extremely scarce, contributing to an environment with high temperatures and high insolation, and being an obstacle to practical classes in biology and science teaching environmental. The reality found does not contribute to the welfare of the students and their process of teaching learning, damaging the situation of basic education in the municipality.
