الوصف: Unlike animals, plants exhibit more complexity of sexual morphs. The genetic mechanism underlying plant sex is a hot research topic in plant biology. In recent decades, advanced theories have been put forth on plant sex determination, but experimental proof is scarce. In recent years, vast achievements have been made to reveal the genetic mechanisms underlying sex separation of plants at the molecular level. Although the sex determination mechanisms have been clarified only in a limited number of plant species thus far, the discoveries offer us an opportunity to understand the genetic mechanisms triggering the separation of plant sexes. This paper reviewed the different aspects of the advanced studies on plant sex evolution and the molecular mechanisms underlying plant sex separation.
