الوصف: Universities have been important collectors and custodians of objects and artifacts for centuries. Over time, these collections have become university museums, which play an important role in preserving and presenting cultural and scientific heritage. The Amazon Museum (MA) of the Federal University of Amazonas is an important source of teaching and research for students, teachers, researchers and the general public. It has unique collections that help to understand the history of science and culture of Manaus society and the Amazonian people, in addition to contributing to the preservation of these heritages for future generations. This is a transversal and complementary reflection to the thesis in progress within the scope of the Graduate Program in Information Science at Universidade Estadual Paulista. Understands museums as a space for communication and learning that provides access to information, generates and makes lifelong learning opportunities available to all. It assumes the museum as such a space to offer a variety of educational programs and learning experiences for visitors. Purpose aligned with what the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) advocates, which recognizes the role of museums in sustainable development and recommends that these spaces are committed to physical and cultural access for all, including vulnerable groups and organized as actors in local communities, contribute to income-generating activities and tourism economy (UNESCO, 2017). Cabral (2021) identified the public profile of the MA is composed of public secondary and elementary school public, followed by tourist visitors. Thus, it is noted that the The museum can collaborate with schools and educational institutions to develop curricula and teaching resources that incorporate the objects and history of the museum, as well as the history of the city of Manaus and the indigenous peoples that inhabit the region. This perspective is in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 - Quality Education, which seeks to ensure inclusive, equitable and quality education, and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. Therefore, Education and awareness go together and museums have the potential to educate and make people aware of important issues such as the environment, human rights and cultural diversity and this can contribute to making learning more engaging and meaningful for students, and to promote appreciation for cultural and historical heritage. For tourist visitors, SDG 8 - Decent Work and Economic Growth stands out, which seeks to promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all. This is made possible when the MA communicates aspects of the tradition of the Manauara people and, as the tourist gets to know and learn, he has the possibility of increasing his desire to explore the region and favor the promotion of sustainable tourism, assuming a possible role in contributing to the development of sustainable tourism, encouraging cultural tourism and promoting the conservation of cultural and natural heritage.
