| مستخلص: | The year 2015 was meant to be a seminal year in global geopolitics due to the transition from the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In short, this transition is significant because the MDGs, even though they raised global consciousness around the need to combat poverty, remained indicator-based, and thus, they did not adequately address socio-economic inequalities and power imbalances in global affairs. Whereas the MDGs aimed to address poverty, the SDGs focus more closely on development, justice and peace-related issues. In fact, the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda includes both objectives, to be addressed within nation-states and relations between nation-states. The SDGs must be viewed as significant advancement in efforts to link sustainable development to the notion of peace… El año 2015 debía ser un momento fundamental en la geopolítica mundial en virtud de la transición de los Objetivos de Desarrollo del Milenio (ODM) hacia los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sustentable (ODS). Se trata de un cambio importante, porque los objetivos del milenio —aunque contribuyeron a incrementar la conciencia mundial sobre la necesidad de combatir la pobreza— se seguían basando en indicadores y, por lo tanto, no abarcaban adecuadamente las iniquidades socio-económicas y los desequilibrios de poder en los asuntos internacionales. Mientras que los objetivos del milenio se concentraban en tratar la pobreza, los del desarrollo sustentable abarcan asuntos relacionados con el desarrollo, la justicia y la paz. De hecho, la Agenda Sustentable de Desarrollo 2030 incluye ambos tipos de metas, ya que no sólo incluye ocho sino diecisiete, y las aborda tanto dentro de los Estados como a escala internacional.
