الوصف: | The Biological Carbon Pump (BCP) exerts a significant control on the global climate by contributing to sequestration of atmospheric CO2 in the ocean interior (Sarmiento & Gruber, 2006). The BCP corresponds to the downwards transport of a part of the photosynthetically produced organic material at the ocean surface that becomes ultimately sequestered when this material reaches sufficiently deep waters (>1,000 m) or the sea floor (Siegel et al., 2021). Roughly 40% of this transport is thought to be due to the cumulative actions of physical (i.e., mixed-layer pump and subduction pump) and biological mechanisms (diurnal migration pump and seasonal |
