| الوصف: | When the United States army in Iraq during the war at the beginning of the 21st century, there was a pressing need to recruit translators and interpreters. Companies such as Titán, GLS and L3 seized the business opportunity, resulting in unfair and disproportionate contracts. At the same time, the hiring of native speakers with a knowledge of English but who lacked the necessary training in translation, gave rise to major scandals involving translators and interpreters overstepping their legal powers or duties, abuse of power or simply embarrassingly substandard work performed by Iraqi citizens who were anxious to flee their cities. Many of these interpreters were threatened and sustained serious injuries as a consequence of their collaboration with US troops. Some managed to escape and came face to face with the "American dream". Others met with a different fate. Con el asentamiento del ejército estadounidense en Iraq durante el conflicto bélico de comienzos del siglo XXI, se acentuó la necesidad de contratar traductores e intérpretes. Empresas como Titán, GLS y L3 aprovecharon la situación y firmaron convenios injustos y desproporcionados que despertaron suspicacias sobre el respeto a los derechos mínimos de sus trabajadores. A su vez, la contratación de hablantes nativos, conocedores del inglés, pero sin la pertinente formación en el oficio de la traducción, dio lugar a importantes escándalos por extralimitación de funciones, abuso de poder o, sencillamente, a bochornosos trabajos obra de ciudadanos iraquíes ansiosos por abandonar sus ciudades. Muchos de esos intérpretes sufrieron amenazas y heridas de gravedad como consecuencia de su colaboración con las tropas estadounidenses. Algunos lograron escapar, pero se dieron de bruces contra la realidad del "sueño americano". Otros no corrieron la misma suerte. |
