| الوصف: | The subject of this article is the brief period of young male beauty prior to becoming a fully mature man. For this state to endure beyond the brief time allotted by Nature, something must happen (usually death) that preserves the adolescent beauty at one particular moment. Here Hadrian’s beloved Antinous serves as an emblematic case, his early death, by drowning, insures that his memory (and subsequent wide-spread cult) remains that of an idealized adolescent. Shorter poetry, I posit, and shorter poetic passages are the ideal artistic medium for such portrayals: as the moment of perfection is a brief one, so too the poetry that encapsulates it is more often shorter, self-contained descriptive frame. L'objet de cet article est la brève période de la beauté du jeune mâle avant qu’il ne devienne un homme en pleine maturité. Pour que cet état perdure au-delà de ce bref délai imparti par la nature, quelque chose (généralement la mort) doit se produire qui préserve la beauté de l'adolescent à ce moment particulier. Antinoüs, l’amant d'Hadrien, est un cas emblématique, car sa mort précoce par noyade fait que son souvenir (ainsi que son culte qui s’est répandu ultérieurement) reste celui d'un adolescent idéalisé. La poésie brève et des passages poétiques brefs sont, à mon sens, le moyen artistique idéal pour de telles représentations : de même que ce moment de perfection est bref, de même la poésie qui le condense est souvent brève et contenue dans un cadre descriptif autonome. L’argomento di questo articolo è il breve periodo della bellezza maschile che precede il passaggio all’uomo adulto. Perché questa condizione possa durare oltre il breve tempo ad essa consentito dalla Natura, è necessario che accada qualcosa (in genere la morte) che preservi la bellezza adolescenziale in un determinato momento. Da questo punto di vista Antinoo, l’amante di Adriano, rappresenta un caso emblematico. La sua morte precoce per affogamento fa sì che la sua memoria (e in seguito il suo diffuso culto) resti quella di un adolescente idealizzato. La poesia breve e le più concise sequenze poetiche sono il medium artistico ideale per ritratti di questo tipo: alla brevità del momento della perfezione corrisponde una poesia che lo celebra assai spesso breve, inquadrata da una cornice narrativa che la rende autonoma. |
