| الوصف: | C’est à l’occasion des récents travaux de réhabilitation du quartier Henri IV au château de Fontainebleau qu’un diagnostic d’archéologie préventive a pu être réalisé dans sa cour. Cette opération avait pour objectif de reconnaître les constructions antérieures aux bâtiments existants, qui étaient documentés par une série de dessins et gravures réalisés au xvie siècle par l’architecte Du Cerceau. C’était également l’opportunité d’en apprendre davantage sur la genèse de cette partie du château et sur son interaction avec l’agglomération de Fontainebleau. À l’exception d’un tronçon de fossé protohistorique, les vestiges rencontrés appartiennent, pour une partie, à la fin du Moyen Âge et pour l’essentiel au xvie siècle. Si l’organisation et la caractérisation des bâtiments observés pour la fin du Moyen Âge n’ont pu être déterminées, ceux qui se succèdent sur cet espace au XVIe siècle ont été confrontés aux dessins et gravures de l’époque. Cela a permis de mettre en évidence certaines discordances qui invitent à la prudence dans l’exploitation de ces documents graphiques et soulignent l’intérêt d’une approche archéologique. La fouille d’une fosse de latrine comblée dans la seconde moitié du XVIe siècle a apporté un éclairage sur le régime alimentaire, les arts de la table ainsi que sur les soins du corps et de l’esprit au sein de la société complexe d’un palais royal. Parmi ces vestiges du quotidien ont été découverts trois bijoux en or émaillé dont une épingle à cheveux au chiffre de Catherine de Médicis. It was during the recent restoration works on the Quartier Henri IV at the Château de Fontainebleau that a preventative archaeology diagnosis of the courtyard was possible. The purpose of this operation was to identify the earlier constructions prior to the existing buildings, which were documented by a series of drawings and engravings made by the architect Jacques Androuet Du Cerceau in the sixteenth century. It was also the opportunity to learn more about the origins of this part of the castle and its interactions with the city of Fontainebleau. With the exception of a section of a protohistoric ditch, the vestiges found belong mostly to the sixteenth century, with a part dating to the late Middle Ages. While the organization and characteristics of the buildings observed from the late Middle Ages could not be determined, those that succeeded one another from the sixteenth century were compared with drawings and engravings from the period. These highlighted certain discrepancies that call for caution in the use of the graphic documents and stress the interest of an archaeological approach. The excavation of a latrine pit, filled in during the second half of the sixteenth century, shed new light on diet and tableware, as well as the care of body and mind in the complex society of a royal palace. Among the remains of everyday life that were discovered were three jewels in enamelled gold, including a hairpin with the figure of Catherine de’ Medici. |
