| الوصف: | Le cham est une danse rituelle pratiquée par les moines bouddhistes de la tradition Vajrayana. Les origines de cette danse restent mystérieuses, mais l’on pense que le cham fut exécuté pour la première fois pour initier la construction du premier temple bouddhiste au Tibet. Cette danse est liée depuis lors à la revendication d’un espace d’épanouissement pour le Dharma (la loi sacrée). D’un point de vue contemporain, la politique du cham s’incarne dans la lutte actuelle pour la libre expression de la culture tibétaine à l’intérieur et à l’extérieur du Tibet. En effet, les différentes conceptions de la libération convergent vers des tentatives répétées d’appropriation d’un « espace d’apparition », condition de la citoyenneté politique selon Hannah Arendt. Si le corps humain est l’échelle la plus fine de l’inscription spatiale du politique, il est urgent de donner une visibilité aux corps tibétains, comme lieux d’expression d’enjeux politiques contemporains. En faisant des spectacles de cham, orchestrés par les maîtres spirituels en exil, un point d’entrée dans une enquête approfondie sur la dimension politique sous-jacente du système monastique tibétain, cet article propose une investigation sur les interactions entre rituel et politique, tout en reliant la danse à l’étude des conditions de survie des tibétains. ’Cham is a dance ritual practised by Buddhist monks of the Vajrayana tradition. While origins of the dance remain a mystery, it is believed that ’cham was first performed to make way for the construction of the first Buddhist temple in Tibet. The dance has since been linked to the (re)claiming of space for the flourishing of dharma. Applied to the present, the politics of ’cham is reflected in the ongoing struggle for freedom, both inside and outside of Tibet, as notions of liberation converge on persistent attempts to reclaim the Arendtian space of appearance that is rightful of a politically-sound citizen. If the human body manifests as the finest scale of political space, it is timely to address the Tibetan bodies as the unseen spectacle on which contemporary politics is being staged. By taking the ‘cham performances of Karmapa in exile as the vantage point of a deeper inquiry into the underlying politics of Tibetan monastics, this articles investigates how ritual works towards the ends of politics and connects dance to the ways Tibetans have survived. |
