Si la répartition de ses figurations indique une certaine popularité auprès des Éduens, c’est bien sûr chez les Mandubiens qu’ont été découverts la plupart des représentations du dieu. Récemment, un nouveau buste en pierre a été mis au jour au sein d’’un sanctuaire gallo-romain, au lieu-dit « En Surelot ». Il est alors possible de remettre une image du « dieu aux oiseaux » dans son contexte archéologique et de proposer une datation qui ne soit pas seulement établie sur des critères de style. En revenant sur le corpus des figurations du dieu, sur les symboles et attributs qui lui sont liés, et en étudiant plus précisément le buste d’En Surelot, il est maintenant possible d’en savoir plus sur une divinité indéniablement populaire. Today the Gallo-Roman “bird god”, also known as the “dove deity”, remains anonymous. Although the number of his representations demonstrate that he enjoyed a certain popularity among the Aedui, it was among the Mandubians that most have been found. Recently a new stone bust was discovered at the “En Surelot” Gallo-Roman sanctuary that now makes it possible to analyse the “bird god” in his archaeological context and to propose dating based on data other than stylistics. Study of the representations, symbols and attributes of the god, in combination with analysis of the bust from En Surelot, offers the opportunity to know more about an undeniably popular divinity. Der gallo-römische „Vogelgott“ ist auch heute noch eine anonyme Gottheit. Obwohl die Verteilung seiner Darstellungen auf eine gewisse Popularität bei den Haeduern weist, so hat man doch die meisten Darstellungen des Gottes bei den Mandubiern entdeckt. Kürzlich wurde in einem gallo-römischen Heiligtum in Alésia im Areal von „En Surelot“ eine neue Büste aus Stein freigelegt. Es ist nun möglich, ein Bildnis des „Vogelgottes“ in seinen archäologischen Kontext einzuordnen und eine Datierung vorzuschlagen, die nicht ausschließlich auf stilistischen Kriterien beruht. Gestützt auf das Corpus der Darstellungen des Gottes, auf die Symbole und Attribute, die einen Bezug mit ihm aufweisen, sowie auf die Untersuchung insbesondere der Büste von En Surelot bietet sich nun die Gelegenheit, mehr über eine unleugbar populäre Gottheit zu erfahren. |
