Cette interdiction provoquera des transgressions et des contournements. On passera la frontière, on jouera Thomas Bernhard à Bratislava et à la frontière italienne, et une troupe française viendra jouer Thomas Bernhard en français à Vienne. Dix ans plus tard, en 1998, l’interdiction sera levée. Et pour sa dernière saison au Burgtheater, Claus Peymann retrouvera son rôle de passeur. In will, the Austrian writer Thomas Bernhard forbade any representation of his plays in Austria. He refused to pass on his work and heritage to the Austrian state. But he also dispossessed his passer, the German stage director Claus Peymann, who was at that time director of the Burgtheater. From this refusal to pass on his work, nevertheless, some unexpected successes were born. It led to transgressions and bypasses. The pass was made over the border and Thomas Bernhard’s plays were played in Bratislava and at the Italian border. A French theater company even managed to put on one of his plays in Vienna, performing in French. Ten years later, in 1998, the interdiction was lifted. And for his last season at the head of the Burgtheater, Claus Peymann returned to his role to his function as a passer of Thomas Bernhard work. |
