| الوصف: | Nicolas Fréret (1688-1749) è conosciuto dagli etruscologi per essere stato l’inventore della tesi dell’origine settentrionale degli Etruschi. Ma il suo interesse per gli Etruschi fu un aspetto limitato della sua opera di critica delle tradizioni. Fréret fu una grande figura dell’illuminismo, considerato durante la rivoluzione francese come un martiro della libertà (da giovane fu imprigionato nella Bastille) e ebbe un certo ruolo, anche se non del tutto chiaro nella cosidetta « letteratura clandestina ». E rispetto alla questione etrusca, il suo approccio non va molto oltre la critica delle testimonianze letterarie, senza una reale analisi dei dati archeologici o linguistici. Nicolas Féret (1688-1798) is known among etruscologists as the creator of the thesis of the arrival of the Etruscans from the North. But his interest in Etruscan matters was very limitated in the career of this important figure of the Enlightment. During French revolution, he was held as a martyr of freedom (when he was young, he had been incarcerated in the Bastille prison) and played a role, even if not quite clear, in the so called « clandestine literature ». About the Etruscan question, his method does not go much further than criticizing ancien written sources, without really analyzing archeological or linguistic data. |
