| الوصف: | Relégué à près de trente ans de réclusion après la déposition de son père, Murad V, et l’avènement de son oncle, Abdülhamid II, en 1876, le prince Salahaddin Efendi nous a laissé un corpus impressionnant d’écrits personnels. Cette documentation d’une richesse et d’une nature exceptionnelles rend compte du contexte « familial » de deux hommes vivant en captivité, entourés d’une centaine de femmes. C’est là une rare occasion de se pencher sur cet univers féminin, même à travers des documents éminemment masculins. Presque involontairement, le prince se fait le truchement de bien des sentiments et frustrations émanant des femmes qui l’entourent, à commencer par une de ses concubines, avec laquelle il vivra un véritable enfer sentimental et émotionnel. C’est ainsi que toute la hiérarchie du harem se dévoile, au gré des observations et des sentiments du prince, s’étageant de sa puissante grand’mère, Şevkefza, aux dizaines de modestes esclaves assignées à leur service. Relegated to almost thirty years of reclusion following his father Murad V’s deposition and his uncle Abdülhamid’s accession in 1876, Prince Salaheddin Efendi left an impressive collection of personal writings. This exceptionally rich documentation relates the “family” life of two men living in captivity, surrounded by some 100 women. This constitutes a rare chance to examine this female environment, albeit through essentially male-authored documents. Almost unintentionally, the prince voices the feelings and frustrations of the women who surround him, most notably one of his concubines, with whom he experiences a sentimental and emotional hell. The hierarchy of the harem thus unfolds through the prince’s observations, ranging from his powerful grandmother Şevkefza to dozens of lowly slaves at their service. |
