| الوصف: | Les Germanies étaient défendues, depuis le désastre de Varus, par deux armées qui ressemblaient aux autres dans leur composition et dans leur hiérarchie, les effectifs diminuant de huit à quatre légions. Elles durent organiser deux systèmes défensifs, l’un pour la Germanie Supérieure et l’autre pour la Germanie Inférieure. Elles prirent parti dans les troubles de 21 et de 68. Plus important, elles jouèrent un rôle dans tous les domaines de l’histoire de la province. L’étude du recrutement montre une évolution lente, marquée par une participation croissante des habitants des provinces. Les soldats développèrent la prospérité, en dépensant des salaires, en se procurant des approvisionnements. Ils contribuèrent aussi à diffuser la romanité. The Germanies were defended, after Varus’s disaster, by two armies which resembled the others in their composition and hierarchy, their numbers being pared down from eight to four legions. They had to organise their defensive systems, one for Upper Germany and the other for Lower Germany. They took sides in the turmoils of 21 and 68. More significantly, they played a part in all areas of the province’s history. On examination, recruiting shows a slow evolution, marked by a growing participation of the inhabitants of the provinces. The soldiers fostered prosperity through spending their pay and catering for themselves. They also contributed to the spreading of romanity. |
