The aim of this exploratory study was to analyse the activity of an experienced PE teacher in a secondary school with struggling students during journeys on foot between the school and the sports facility. Following a situated approach, which included recording the first fourteen lessons of the school year and conducting self-confrontation interviews with the teacher after each lesson, we focused on a specific aspect of PE which tends to be overlooked by researchers. For the teacher, these journeys provide an opportunity to spend time with the students and listen to what they have to say, clamp down on bad behaviour, think about future lessons, and bring the students together. As they enable teachers to prepare for, extend and go beyond the lesson, these journeys deserve special attention in teacher training. |
