| الوصف: | Cas d’école exemplaire pour l’analyse géopolitique, la péninsule de Crimée se situe de façon récurrente au cœur de rivalités de pouvoir sans cesse renouvelées. Sa situation géographique en fait en effet un verrou majeur entre le monde méditerranéen et les immensités eurasiatiques et elle constitue depuis le xviiie siècle le débouché méridional d’un isthme russe reliant Baltique et mer Noire. En associant perspective diachronique, ancrée dans la longue durée, et indispensables emboîtements d’échelles, cet article permet de comprendre les enjeux singuliers qui accompagnent au cours de l’hiver 2014 la dernière « réplique » de la question de Crimée, mettant aux prises Russie et Ukraine, mais surtout intérêts géostratégiques d’une sphère occidentale pilotée par l’OTAN face aux manifestations d’une puissance russe réactivée dans l’espace méditerranéen et proche-oriental. Crimea issue could be considered as a representative case study for geopolitics, since it has an impact on the balance of power within the region and, in a broader sense, on international relations and global politics. Due to its great geopolitical significance the Crimean Peninsula has been disputed over the centuries. Its geographical position transformed it into the most important boundary between the Mediterranean civilization and the open expanse of the Eurasian continent. At the end of the 18th century the incorporation of Crimea allowed to the Russian Empire not to be a landlocked as it granted via the Mediterranean an access to the world’s ocean. Being an essential waterway, the nearby Dnieper River connects the Black Sea with the Baltic Sea. Thanks to diachronic analysis and diverse approaches this article proposes a better understanding of the major challenges emerged from the latest events in Crimea that caused Russia-Ukraine tensions which since 2014 still remain high. The article also encourages a deeper understanding of a new geopolitical landscape while driven by NATO western countries have to deal with Russia aspiring to strengthen its position in the Mediterranean and Middle East region. |
