| الوصف: | Este artículo trata de la singular fortuna de una lista de proposiciones ofensivas contra san Agustín que se atribuyeron a unos teólogos jesuitas españoles y que circularon por toda Europa en los años 1640. El origen de estas proposiciones son unas acaloradas declaraciones hechas por Juan Schinckels, declaraciones que Juan Sinnich, representante del partido agustiniano de la Universidad, denunció a Roma en un Memorial. Dos doctores, enviados en 1650 a España por el mismo partido augustiniano, pusieron en circulación estas proposiciones e hicieron lo posible por conseguir que fueran condenadas en Madrid y en Roma. A la historia de estos trámites se añade un análisis de las fuentes y del contenido de estas proposiciones, cuya trayectoria es un perfecto ejemplo de la creación y la difusión de rumores en la Europa religiosa del siglo xvii y que muestran la importancia de los debates en torno a san Agustín. Le présent travail traite de la singulière fortune d’une liste de propositions offensives contre saint Augustin qui a circulé en Europe, dans les années 1640, attribuée à des théologiens jésuites espagnols. À l’origine, des propos vifs tenus à Louvain par Jean Schinckels, dénoncés à Rome dans un Mémorial établi par Jean Sinnich, représentant le parti augustinien de l’Université; le même parti, majoritaire, envoya deux docteurs en Espagne en 1650, qui firent circuler cette liste de propositions, en essayant d’obtenir des condamnations à Madrid, puis à Rome. A l’histoire de ces démarches, nous avons joint une analyse des sources et du contenu de ces propositions, dont la trajectoire est exemplaire de la création et la diffusion de rumeurs dans l’Europe religieuse du xviie et qui témoignent de l’ampleur des débats autour de saint Augustin. This paper relates the diffusion of XXII propositions against Augustine: circulated in Europe around 1640, they were thought to belong to various Jesuit theologians. Their origin is to be found in Leuven, from some unfortunate antiaugustinian sayings of Jean Schinckels, gathered in a Memorial presented to the Holy See by Jean Sinnich, delegate of the University, in 1642. In 1650, the Leuven Faculty of Theology sent to Madrid two doctors in order to prevent the King from publishing in Flanders the Bull In eminenti: they tried by all means to obtain a condamnation of the «Jesuit propositions» by the Spanish Inquisition as well as by the Roman Court. To the history of the Spanish and Roman dealings in this affaire, we add an extensive analysis of the founts and meaning of the propositions. While attesting the importance of the debates around Augustine’s heritage, the paper gives a fairly detailed account of the way a rumour could spread in 17th century Europe. |
