مستخلص: Random samples were drawn from the city directories of Columbus, Nebraska, and Grand Forks, North Dakota, for a study of the ability of readers to detect and differentiate between straight news and editorials. Each respondent completed a Likert-type instrument, which had a split-half reliability of 0.87. Analyses indicated that there were differences between the two communities in readers' ability to detect and differentiate between news stories and editorials, and that males, readers of higher educational level, and readers of higher income were better at the task than were females, readers of lower educational level, and readers of lower income. There were no significant differences on this task for readers above and below the median age. (Author/AA)
