A preschool program for 14 handicapped children in Ouachita Parish, Louisiana, is described and evaluation findings reported. Program objectives are listed for instructional, parent-family, staff development, and demonstration and dissemination components. Among findings were that mentally retarded children showed greater than anticipated improvement in self help, social, motor, language, and cognitive skills; that parents were realistic in describing their child's handicapping condition and learned ways to help their child's education at home; and that transportation was a recurring problem. Recommendations include an increase in child search activities. Sample forms are appended. (CL) |
