مستخلص: In an effort to more effectively and efficiently administer Title III funds received for faculty, staff, and administrator development activities, the Northern Maine Technical College (NMTC) created a professional activities handbook for distribution to all college employees. This practicum report details the procedures undertaken in developing the handbook and includes a copy of the handbook itself. After chapter 1 provides a brief introduction to the project, chapter 2 offers a review of the literature on development activities, including issues of planning and evaluation, communication of program design, considerations for staff and part-time faculty, and handbook development strategies. Chapters 3 and 4 describe the handbook development process at NMTC (which included an analysis of the technical college system's travel guidelines, collective bargaining agreements, and a review of development handbooks from other colleges and universities), and its results. Chapter 5 concludes with a list of recommendations for developing the professional activities handbook. The handbook itself includes a cover letter for employees, and presents information on the mission, philosophy, and objectives of professional and personal development activities. It also describes and diagrams the organizational structure for staff development; presents institutional policies, procedures, and guidelines for participating in development activities; and provides sample forms and activity reports. Development activities covered in the handbook include academic courses, national conventions, on- and off-campus workshops, college forums, faculty and faculty/industry exchanges, internships, certification/recertification, sabbaticals, and unpaid leaves of absence.
