مستخلص: Changing demands on academic libraries make it important to assess continuously the status of academic library resources and library operations. The Academic Library Survey (ALS), conducted periodically by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) since 1966, was designed to provide concise information on library resources, services, and expenditures for the entire population of academic libraries in the United States. This report summarizes the status of U.S. academic libraries in 1992 and presents data on changes in library staffing and resources between 1990 and 1992. Tables examine seven focal indicators of library status: (1) total full-time equivalent (FTE) library staff; (2) total FTE library staff per 1,000 FTE students and per 100 full-time instructional faculty members; (3) total volumes held; (4) total volumes held per FTE student; (5) total library operating expenditures; (6) total library operating expenditures as a percentage of total educational and general expenditures; and (7) total library operating expenditures per FTE student. Appendices provide: data on FTE student enrollment, faculty size, and total educational and general expenditures information; and technical materials describing ALS methodology and statistical procedures.
