مستخلص: This booklet is part of a series developed by the National Alliance of High Schools Advisory Council to serve as a resource for high school leaders. It targets specific changes for high school curricula and examines three elements of curriculum design: content, skills, and assessment, and how they can be upgraded for high school students. The volume highlights design practices that promote integrated learning, offering examples of programs that exemplify contemporary curricula. The plan is presented in 8 design practices: (1) high school teachers should select a specific format from a range of options, including discipline field-based design, parallel discipline design, and student-centered design; (2) schools must upgrade and revise content to focus on contemporary issues and problems; (3) teachers should frame their curriculum content and classroom investigations around sets of essential questions; (4) curriculum designs should develop the skills and techniques necessary for entering careers and adulthood; (5) assessment products and/or performances should be targeted to provide comprehensive evidence of skill development, conceptual insight, and knowledge acquisition; (6) the type of assessment should match the developmental characteristics of the adolescent; (7) curriculum designs should be matched by structural formats that best serve the learner; and (8) high school curriculum planners should learn from the work of others.
