مستخلص: On average 66% of high school graduates in the United States enroll in some form of post-secondary education after high school graduation. However, less than half of students sitting for the ACT in 2019 were deemed college ready in evidence-based reading, writing and math and as many of two thirds of first year college students enroll in at least one developmental education course, furthermore less than 63% of students complete a four-year degree within six years. As the need for and the cost of post-secondary education continues to explode it is imperative that students are prepared for college, particularly in writing. The purpose of this research was to determine what skills recent high school graduates perceive as the most important to their success in writing at the post-secondary level and what skills were learned during a senior year writing course. Using a frequency analysis, it was determined what skills were perceived as most necessary for college success and a series of single sample t-tests were used to determine if there was a statistical significance of the skill being learned in high school. Based on Conley's framework for college readiness the research determined that students who were enrolled in a Catholic high school senior course focused on writing a college level research paper had a high statistical probability of learning key cognitive and key learning skills and techniques that helped them be successful in writing at the college level.
