مستخلص: The purpose of this research was to better understand why very few undergraduate business students at an HBCU in the southeastern United States were participating in study abroad programs and to develop recommendations to increase participation. Specifically, the researcher identified student customer barriers to study abroad, gained a sense of these students' global awareness, and identified the students' Kano model "Must Be" requirements. Potential study abroad program attributes were identified that could meet their "Must Be" requirements and mitigate their most significant barriers. The population to be studied was undergraduate students majoring in business management and administration, accounting, logistics and supply chain management, marketing, and finance at this HBCU. Qualitative data were collected from 21 students through email Internet interviews. The qualitative data were used to develop a survey instrument to collect quantitative data from 118 students. Survey Monkey was used for data collection; Microsoft Excel and Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) were used for data analysis. According to the quality management customer focus principle, the students are customers. Lack of global awareness did not prove to be a barrier for this population. Nine statistically significant barriers were identified for these students. At least one statistically significant study abroad program attribute was identified to potentially mitigate each significant barrier. Student customer propensity to participate in a study abroad program will likely increase if the students' voices are heard and their requirements are clear.
