مستخلص: The 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) of the U.S. generally provides immunity from copyright infringement for Internet service providers that comply with its mandates. However, a little-known provision of DMCA gives a unique right to copyright holders to issue onerous subpoenas to service providers for information regarding their customers, without the need to file a lawsuit. Under the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, the subpoena, in order to be valid, must issue from a court that is located in the same judicial district as the service provider.
