This article builds upon current status and problems in information systems planning to examine ways in which it can be developed into a more mature management tool. The concepts and terminology of ISP are reviewed, and current ISP practice and its shortcomings are studied. The key variables that influence the success of ISP are determined, and from an analysis of the variables a new approach to ISP for the coming years is derived. The maturity of ISP is indicated by the degree in which ISP forms an integral part of deliberation and decision making processes within an organization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
