This article presents a reprint of the article "The Visible Library Worker," by Judith Siess, which appeared in the November 2005 issue of the journal "Library Mosaics." To become more visible, librarians should begin by asking what value they can provide to the library and its customers. Since appearances matter, they should determine what is appropriate for their own situation and library setting. Some libraries are very casual or have different dress expectations for different staff levels. In addition, the fast pace of change in modern society, in technology, and in the subject matter of libraries means that librarians must constantly relearn their job. |
