مستخلص: A successful career rarely comes without some degree of advice and counsel from those who are the experts and leaders in a field. On the other hand, academic librarians are expected to take responsibility for their own learning and are personally accountable for their success. Designing a personal mentoring program tailored to individual goals and objectives can serve as a catalyst for librarians embarking on a new academic appointment or new responsibilities. Trends in mentoring literature are evaluated in terms of changing business environments. A personally designed mentoring model initiated by the protégé is described with examples of applications for academic librarians. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
