The article propagates the view that social media has gained such great presence in the world of the 21st century, that it cannot be ignored. Thus, the article explores the question as to whether Germany, and the German speaking countries more broadly are left behind with regard to the updating of the archival work methodologies. Although the transformation process of digitalizing archival materials and the implementation of the Web 2.0 principles have become a common place, the German speaking archives have not yet familiarized themselves with working with social media applications such as Facebook, Twitter and other blogs. |
